Join Us for Independence Day 2019

Independence Day is just around the corner and we would love your help in supporting CERT and CERV this holiday. Monterey's annual 4th of July Parade and is a must-attend celebration that draws approximately 15,000 people to line the streets in and around Old Monterey. Come revel in the festive floats, patriotic displays, entertaining costumes, musical bands and a day full of free activities.

There are a number of ways you can help support your community this year:

1. Marching in the parade:
All CERT members for the parade. All CERT marchers stage in the Blood Center back parking lot at 576 Hartnell Street across from the Monterey Post Office before 9:30 a.m. so we can get our spot in the "procession" and be ready to go.  Fortunately, in front of the Monterey Post Office is also where the FREE donuts and coffee are located!  (Bonus!🎆) Please bring (and wear) your CERT helmet, vest and some good walking shoes.

The parade will start at the corner of Alvarado Street and Pearl Street. It will go down Alvarado Street and turn left onto Del Monte Ave and then take an immediate left onto Calle Principal. It will continue on Calle Principal until Jefferson Street, and end there.  It is an easy stroll with CERT members (all the units, not just us!).

 2. Manning the CERT/CERV Booth:
We need volunteers to help share the benefits of the Monterey CERT and CERV programs and tell citizens how they can get involved. The CERT/CERV booth will be located on Pacific Street across from Francis Elkin Park (Monterey Museum of Art). We will begin setting up the booth no later than 9:30 AM. We would love your help for an hour or two throughout the day (till 4:30/5pm) either setting up, manning or breaking down the booth. We need at least two volunteers per hour. If you are able to assist with the booth please contact Sarah Blackstone at sarahblack@aol.com.

The best place to park on the day of the parade will be the West Garage, East Garage or Lot 7 with entry on Pacific Avenue. Please refer to the City of Monterey's Parking Services for locations.

Please remember your sunscreen and smiles. We look forward to seeing you on Independence Day!
